The layout of an Intensive Therapy Unit bed-space is deliberately engineered to optimise both patient safety and clinical efficiency. Each bedside is positioned so that the primary caregiver has an unobstructed view of the patient’s monitor, ventilator, infusion pumps and emergency equipment, allowing rapid assessment and intervention. Critical devices, such as defibrillators, suction units and medication carts, are placed within arm’s reach but organised to minimise clutter and reduce the risk of cross‑contamination. Adequate spacing between beds ensures privacy, facilitates movement for staff and equipment, and complies with infection‑control standards. Lighting, power outlets and data ports are strategically located to support continuous monitoring and documentation, while ergonomic considerations, such as adjustable work surfaces and clear pathways, help reduce fatigue and streamline the workflow of the multidisciplinary care team.
